Since ascending the German throne Kaiser Wilhelm II had deliberately adopted a more militaristic pose than his predecessor, determined to achieve a "place in the sun" for Germany along with Europe's other great powers.

The film footage available here (see below) features the Kaiser featuring foremost at a military gathering in 1913, a short period before war began in Europe.

The German word "U-Boat" was derived from "Unterseeboot" (undersea boat).
