This section of the website, written and contributed by Chris Baker, editor of www.1914-1918.net, documents the contribution of Belgium to the war effort, whom he describes as "the least-prepared army on the Western Front in 1914".

The sidebar to the right lists the various chapters available within this section.

A "pal's battalion" was comprised of soldiers raised in the same locality with the promise they would serve with their friends for the duration of the war.
