Emperor Karl IVintage Audio: Austro-Hungarian Emperor Karl I

Available here are is an audio files of Austria-Hungary's last Emperor, Karl I, recorded in the months prior to his accession to the combined Austro-Hungarian throne in November/December 1916.

Before the death of Emperor Franz-Josef I Karl served in active field command positions, a career which inevitably came to an abrupt end once he became Emperor.

In the first audio clip, recorded on 16 February 1916, Karl gives his formal blessing to the Imperial Austrian Fund established to aid military widows and orphans (click here - MP3 Format 922KB).

"ANZAC" was coined in 1915 from the initials of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
