Reproduced below are the lyrics to the popular U.S. marching song, It's a Long Way to Berlin, But We'll Get There!

Written by Arthur Fields with music by Leon Flatow (both performers in their own right) the song achieved instant success when published by Leo Feist, Inc in 1917.  The title is reminiscent of the hugely popular British wartime anthem It's a Long Way to Tipperary written in 1912.

It's a Long Way to Berlin, But We'll Get There!

It’s a long way to Berlin, but we’ll get there
Uncle Sam will show the way,
Over the line, then across the Rhine,
Shouting Hip!  Hip!  Hooray!
We’ll sing Yankee Doodle 'Under the Linden'
With some real live Yankee Pep! (Hep!)
It’s a long way to Berlin, but we’ll get there,
and I’m on my way by heck.

By 1918 the percentage of women to men working in Britain had risen to 37% from 24% at the start of the war.
